The funeral activities for late Senator Uche Chukwumerije will officially kick off May 20 with a valedictory service in the Senate, his first son, Che Chidi Chukwumerije, said iving the burial details at a press conference in Abuja yesterday.
This will be followed by a Night of Tributes, which will hold on the same day at 6p.m. at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Sheraton Hotels in Abuja.
Thereafter, Chikwumerije’s remains will depart Abuja for Enugu and later, his hometown, Isuochi, in Abia State, where he will lie in-state at 2p.m.
He will be buried on Friday, May 22.
Che Chidi Chukwumerije said the family has been overwhelmed by the “constant in-flow of tributes and testimonies,” which he described as a “clear affirmation of the man and the marks he left behind”.
In addition to this, his many-faceted life also encompassed his love and support for Taekwondo, tennis, jogging, his deep devotion to Jesus Christ and his extra-ordinary love for his family. It is a man of conscience and character that we are coming together to bid a heartfelt farewell to,” he said.
Members of the burial committee are Senators Bassey Ewa-Henshaw, Ben Obi, who is the Chairman, Saidu Dansadau, Farouk Lawan, former INEC Chairman, Maurice Iwu; Chairman of Thisday Editorial Board, Segun Adeniyi; The Source Publisher, Comfort Obi; Chairman of the United Progressives Party (UPP), Chekwas Okorie; and former Health Minister, Prof. A. B. C. Nwosu.
