Two Of Four Missing Policemen Found ‘Unhurt’ In Benue

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on Sunday deployed additional three units of Police Mobile Force to Birane village in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The three mobile units of the police are to be deployed in Zamfara state to ensure effective cover of forest areas and bushes in the state, to prevent further attacks and to forestall further loss of lives.

The IGP gave this directive, following the killing of 18 people in Birane village of Zurmi Local Government area on Wednesday, February 14 by some armed men.

In a statement signed by the police public relations officer, Jimoh Moshood, the IGP also commiserated with the victims, adding that the new deployment will increase the number of the mobile police force deployed to ten.

“The IGP deeply commiserates with the Government and People of Zamfara State over the heinous act that led to the killing of harmless and innocent people and calls for cooperation of all the people in the affected areas in supporting the Police to find a lasting solution to the killings and the arrest of the perpetrators.

“To forestall further loss of lives and ensure that the perpetrators of the killings are promptly arrested and brought to justice, the IGP has directed the deployment of additional three units of Police Mobile Force (PMF) to the affected areas, bringing to ten Police Mobile Force Units dispatched to the State in the recent time to augment the personnel of the Zamfara State Police Command to maintain law and order and sustain the normalcy that has been restored in Zurmi and other parts of the State,” the statement read in part.

The police boss also vowed to thoroughly investigate the deadly attack in order to bring the killers to justice, describing the killings as a worrisome development.

Idris who met with the Emir of the affected community, Abubakar Muhammad, asked the people to assist the police in fishing out the perpetrators.

The Emir on his part insisted that the people of Zamfara were not looking for any sympathy visit, and instead blamed the attack on alleged negligence by the police.
