After details of the upcoming Australian-made sports saloon leaked on the web, Ford released a photo of the brute along with some official specs.
You’ll have to be pretty fast to get one of the special Falcons though, because only 1,400 of the limited-edition Sprint models will be built; 550 XR6s and 850 XR8s, to be more precise.
Both will come with a hefty premium over the “standard” versions, with the XR6 Turbo Sprint coming in at $54,990, while the XR8 Sprint will start at $59,990 (a $9800 and $6500 increase respectively).
However, the “Sprint” badge doesn’t come only with an increase in price (and possibly in visual enhancements), however, with an increase in performance as well. The six-cylinder XR6 is now inches close to its V8 counterpart, while the latter doesn’t adventure in the exclusive FPV GT-F 351’s territory.
The 4.0-litre turbocharged XR6 Turbo Sprint borrowed the FPV F6’s turbo and injectors, and received a bigger intercooler, a lower positioned airbox, enlarged air intake design, and a unique calibration to the engine and six speed automatic transmission, as the model won’t come with a manual. The total power output is 435 hp at 6000rpm, and 576Nm of torque at 2750rpm – and there's a 10-second overboost function, which climbs the power up to 496 hp and 650 Nm.
As you’d expect, the XR8 Sprint’s supercharged “Miami” V8 received its own set of upgrades that push the power to a new 462 hp at 5750rpm and 575Nm of torque between 2200-6250rpm output. Take into account the 10 second overboost and you’ve got yourself a 536 hp and 650 Nm mean-machine. The XR8 Sprint can be commissioned in both manual and automatic form.
Additionally, both Falcons will come with six-piston Brembo brakes up front and four-piston at the back. Sales will commence in May, and Ford Australia has already said we should expect more news in the following weeks.
