You could say that, Chevy managed to take away the limelight from Mercedes-AMG’s C63 Convertible in New York today with the topless version of their new 2017 Camaro ZL1.
It shares everything with the solid roof Camaro ZL1 Coupe, which also celebrated its world premiere at the New York Auto Show, from its Corvette Z06-sourced supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that delivers over 640-horses and 640 pound-feet (868 Nm) of torque, to the aerodynamic enhancements and chassis improvements.
“It offers comparable performance to the coupe model, thanks to the Camaro’s modular and rigid body architecture, which was designed at the outset to support a high-performance convertible,” claims Chevrolet. “As a result, only a few minor structural differences separate the coupe and convertible models, enabling the coupe’s track-honed chassis and driver control systems to carry over unchanged.”
Its box of tricks include GM’s magnetorheological adaptive dampers, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, a limited slip differential, Brembo brakes with 15.4-inch front rotors, and Performance Traction Management electronics with launch control.
When it reaches Chevy showrooms next year, you’ll be able to choose from a six-speed stick shift or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission.
