Confirmation has come that all 2017 model year Ford F-150 model will receive an engine start-stop system as standard for the 3,5-liter EcoBoost.

While the outgoing F-150 is already available with such a system when outfitted with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, this will be the first time the technology is featured on all models, including the range-topping SVT Raptor and recently-introduced Raptor SuperCrew.

The F-150's start-stop technology will work like most others by shutting off the engine when the vehicle is stationary. However, the system will be automatically disabled when four-wheel drive mode is selected or when towing.

With the introduction of start-stop in the F-150 range, over 60 per cent of the automaker's truck lineup will now be available with such a feature, helping to decrease fuel consumption and cut emissions.

According to Ford truck group marketing manager Doug Scott, “EcoBoost already powers F-150's best-in-class towing. Now, with every EcoBoost-equipped F-150 mildly electrified with standard Auto Start-Stop technology, customers' fuel efficiency is expected to improve as well."
