The new Continental GT has been caught on camera in spite of being sandwiched between a couple of Bentaygas.
Bentley’s first model after it was acquired by the VW Group is now in its second generation that was launched in 2011 and its successor will debut in 2017 as a 2018 model.
This prototype is wearing the production car’s body and, despite the cladding, the grille that now sits lower, reshaped front air intakes, more muscular fenders, new mirrors and different glasshouse are more than telling.
All in all, it’s been completely redesigned and at the same time stays true to the blueprint established in 2004 with the first GT. This one will be sharing its underpinnings with others in the Group’s empire, most notably the MSB platform that’s earmarked for the new Porsche Panamera and is both lighter and more rigid than today’s chassis.
Customers opting for Bentley's new sports coupe will get to choose between two engines: an updated version of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and the new 6.0-liter W12 of the Bentayga, both of which will be coupled to all-wheel drive. There’s even talk of a plug-in hybrid that will be powered by the respective Cayenne’s powertrain, though that could be further down the road.
