Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners over Leicester in a closely fought affair at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

First half goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino proved to be enough for the visitors although they were given a scare in the second half when Rachid Ghezzal pulled one back for the Foxes, courtesy of a mistake from Liverpool's goalkeeper Alisson.

Here are four things we learned from the intriguing encounter.

4. Alisson Isn't the Finished Article...Yet

It is very clear that Alisson is a top keeper and he will no doubt earn Liverpool plenty of points this season all by himself.

There's no getting around the fact that his mistake for Leicester's goal was catastrophic, but it will simply act as a harsh lesson for the Brazilian.

The mistake simply shows that he is still adjusting to life in the Premier League. If anything, it will help him learn that sometimes launching the ball into the stands is the most sensible option - no matter how much you want to Cruyff turn your way out of danger.

It is also much easier to learn how to go long, rather than play the intricate style of football Alisson clearly prefers at the moment.

3. Liverpool Are Still Yet to Hit Top Gear

Four wins from four matches is exactly how Jurgen Klopp would have wanted to start the season, but Liverpool are still yet to find their best form.

The trio of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have bagged seven goals between them, but so far they haven't been playing to the same lofty standards they set last year.

As cliche as it sounds, winning whilst you aren't playing at your best is a trait that the best teams possess. But Liverpool won't want to be grinding out results every week and they'll certainly need to up their game against Spurs in a fortnight.

2. James Maddison Was Money Well Spent for Leicester

There's always a risk when you purchase a player who has performed well in the Championship, but James Maddison is proving that he is well worth the £24m Leicester paid for his services.

The attacking midfielder has started his time in the Premier League very well and he was  impressive against Liverpool, looking sharp in the attacking third whilst demonstrating decent decision making in pressurised situations.

He didn't earn himself a spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming international break, but if he continues performing to the same level then a call up should be right around the corner.

1. Joe Gomez is the Real Deal

Virgil van Dijk has been stealing the headlines for his performances at the heart of the Liverpool defence so far this season and for good reason - he has been playing very well.

However, he wasn't at his best in this one and was bailed out by Joe Gomez on more than one occasion. The young defender was superb throughout and it is hard to believe that he is just 21. It also needs to be remembered that he is only just getting his chance to play in central defence after spending previous seasons at full back.

His performances have surely done enough to cement his place in Liverpool's starting XI, even when Dejan Lovren returns to full fitness.
