A second loss of the tournament to Belgium meant that England finished this summer's World Cup in fourth position.

Goals from Thomas Meunier and Eden Hazard condemned the Three Lions to a loss, which in reality, not many England fans will really care about after such an inspiring run.

Here are four things we learned from the clash.

1. Belgium's 'Golden Generation' Could Dominate for Years to Come

Whilst they may not have reached the final this time around, Belgium did clinch their best ever World Cup finish at this summer's tournament.

At times their football was majestic to watch, and on the counter they were deadly.

With the core duo of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld likely to be Belgium's first choice centre back pairing for years to come, the likes of Axel Witsel and Kevin De Bruyne in midfield and the combination of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens going forward, this Belgium team is set for a period of dominance not too dissimilar to Spain's.

2. England Are in Desperate Need of a Ball Playing Midfielder

With a combined expected goals (xG) of just 1.5 over their last two games, England are clearly lacking in one thing - creativity. Jordan Henderson is unfairly targeted by some fans as not being good enough to play for England, but his job isn't to be creative. It's to break up play and give it someone who can create. Unfortunately, England don't possess this player in the middle of the park.

Against Croatia when we most needed it, there was a lack of control in our midfield. Jesse Lingard cannot play that role, neither can Dele Alli or Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The same problem was present against Belgium: Kevin De Bruyne is the man who dictates how Belgium attack, everything goes through him. England don't need someone of his quality, but they do need somebody of his ilk.

3. Thomas Meunier is Going to be a World Beater

Unlike so many players nowadays, Meunier hasn't been tipped to become a world class player since his teens.

But his performances at the World Cup have been key to how successful Belgium have been. Once again he was key for the Red Devils, and this time the Three Lions were his victims.

Playing high and wide, Meunier was a constant menace and richly deserved his goal. As defensively sound as he was dangerous going forward, PSG will be looking at the €7m they spent on him as a serious bargain.

4. Kieran Trippier Has Cemented Himself as England's Premier Wing Back

Nobody was quite sure what Gareth Southgate planned to do with Kieran Tripper before the World Cup. Was he to play wing back and Kyle Walker moved to centre back? Or would his game time be limited with the experienced Walker moved to his natural position of right back?

There can be no questions as to who will be playing as England's right wing back in future though, and Trippier's performance against Belgium further confirmed he has a long term place in this side.

His energy wasn't matched by many on the pitch, and his delivery from set pieces appears to be a vital part of Gareth Southgate's plans going forward.
