You Are Here: 🏠Home  »  Sports   »   7 Of The Absolute Worst Football Adverts In History

Have you ever come across an advert which is so cringeworthy it hurts? Well, if you haven't, you're about to.

Below are seven either football inspired or related ads which hold the key for a loss of faith in humanity - oh, and don't forget the bonus eighth - literally not a clue. You'll see what I mean.

1. Manchester United - ICICI Bank

Of course, we have to start off with the one which inspired this list; Manchester United's partnership with Indian bank ICICI.

There are so many things wrong with this advert it is almost painful to watch; however, the dabbing is undoubtedly the most stomach-churning aspect.

Please, never again, United.

2. Manchester City - Etisalat UAE

However, the Red Devils are not the only half of Manchester which has sanctioned the making of what should be a globally-banned advert, with Manchester City's celebratory title-winning video from Etisalat UAE last season enough to make you want to take a blunt spoon to your eyeballs.

City fans get a lot of stick for their, on occasion, 'lacklustre' support; however, even they are not this plastic.

3. Brentford - Funeral Directors

Not necessarily cringeworthy, but Brentford's new "official funeral partners", G Saville & Son Funeral Directors is certainly bizarre.

In what has to be the most morbid sponsorship deal to date, the new partnership will allow fans to reap discounted rewards for all their funeral needs, including being buried in a club-coloured coffin.

Just what you want to think about while at the match.

4. Peter Schmeichel - Danepak

Back to Manchester United now - you will see there is a common theme - where former goalkeeping hero Peter Schmeichel is seen playing a variety of musical instruments while dressed as a butcher singing about bacon.

However, bizarrely, the most frustrating moment in this ad is not the Old Trafford legend, but when the bloke to the right of the ex-stopper is dancing along with the rest of the, apparently very old, Danish football team entirely out of sync.

It's not exactly a Beyonce routine.

5. John Arne Riise & Morten Gamst Pedersen - The Players

Slipping away from United - for just a moment - Blackburn Rovers' players participated in an ad about Venky's chicken shortly after the takeover; just before things went very downhill.

However, while watching that, another video popped up which had to be included - boy band/rap group 'The Players', made up of John Arne Riise and Morten Gamst Pedersen, helping international team-mate Erik Huseklepp discover the dangers of Pick 'n' Mix in a supermarket.

I don't speak Norwegian, but found it very empowering.

6. Michael Owen - Dubai Tour

Ahhh, back to an old favourite now, with Michael Owen offering the world an in-depth tour of Dubai from his helicopter.

It is difficult to decide whether it's the former striker's awkward delivery or overt use of the autocue throughout which is the worst part, or, maybe, it's just all of it.

7. Shinji Kagawa - SoftBank

And last, but certainly not least, is Shinji Kagawa's participation in an advert for Japanese telecommunications company (not that the video would in any way relate) SoftBank.

Despite the talking dog, which inconsequentially is dressed in a top hat while poking its head out of a black cab, the weirdest part of the ad has to be the random appearance of a whale seemingly offering some much-needed information.

What is it with United players and horrendous commercials?

8. BONUS - No Idea What's Going On

Right, from the top; this advert has a floating head, a freaky as hell six-foot dog who gets abducted by aliens and reappears later with a bag of crisps on some kind of substance, a small girl crying, a football match, a plane, a bird and a fish.

Told you, not a clue.
