EA Sports has announced that FUT ICONS will be returning for FIFA 19 after their successful debut on FIFA 18.

Legends like Pele, Diego Maradona, Ronaldo and Thierry Henry were available last year, and many new names from the annuls of football history have been added for this year's game, which is released on September 28.

Here are 9 of the most exciting players you can take control of this year.

9. Hristo Stoichkov

The most talented Bulgarian player ever to take the field, Stoichkov was as arrogant as he was brilliant. He was part of the Barcelona team which won four consecutive La Liga titles between 1991 and 1994, finishing as the team's top scorer in three of those seasons.

At international level, he was the driving force behind Bulgaria's unlikely run to the semi finals of the 1994 World Cup, scoring six goals at the tournament including a brilliant free kick in the surprise quarter final win over Germany.

8. Socrates

A cult hero of Brazilian football, Socrates was part of the 1982 Brazil team, considered by many people to be the greatest international side not to win the World Cup.

Described as "the brain of Brazil", Socrates' intelligent game complemented his teammates' style and flair. He scored against Italy at the 1982 World Cup, but Brazil lost 3-2 in one of the great World Cup matches.

7. Bobby Moore

England's greatest ever defender captained the Three Lions to their definitive moment, lifting the World Cup on home soil as England were crowned world champions in 1966. He was also a legend of West Ham, making over 600 appearances for the Hammers.

Pele described Moore as "the greatest defender I have ever played against," a sentiment which was echoed by Sir Alex Ferguson and Franz Beckenbauer. For Moore to be regarded as he was among this sort of esteemed company shows what an outstanding player he was.

6. Ryan Giggs

Ryan Giggs had incredible longevity at Manchester United, becoming the club's all-time record appearance maker in a career spanning 24 years. He won an incredible 13 Premier League titles, and the Champions League twice.

Many of his greatest moments came when he was younger, so fans will relish the opportunity to recreate goals like his famous solo effort against Arsenal in the 1998/99 FA Cup semi final all over again.

5. Roberto Baggio

The Divine Ponytail was more than a pretty haircut. He almost single-handedly led Italy to the 1994 World Cup final, only to miss his penalty in the shoot-out as Brazil won.

At club level, Baggio played for a variety of Italian clubs including Milan and Inter, but it was at Juventus where he was most successful, scoring 115 goals in 200 appearances for I Bianconeri.

4. Franco Baresi

A defender considered by many to be the greatest of his generation, Franco Baresi was a one-club man who spent his entire career at AC Milan, for whom he made over 700 appearances - only Paolo Maldini has made more.

His spell at the Rossoneri coincided with a rich period of success in the club's history. They won six Serie A titles and four European Cups in his time at the San Siro.

3. Eusebio

It is surprising that a nation the size of Portugal has produced two of the greatest footballers of all time. Before Cristiano Ronaldo there was Eusebio, whose goalscoring consistency at Benfica would make even Ronaldo envious.

At the 1966 World Cup, Eusebio became the first African-born player to win the golden boot, scoring nine goals at the tournament including four in one game against North Korea, as Portugal reached the semi finals for the first time.

2. George Best

George Best is from a different era to most of the other icons on this list, but at his peak he would have been a match for any of them. The Irish FA credits him as the "greatest player to ever pull on the green shirt of Northern Ireland."

At club level, Best became an iconic player for Manchester United and played in the legendary team that won the European Cup in 1968, scoring in the final against Benfica.

1. Johan Cruyff

The highest-rated of the new batch of icons, Johan Cruyff is rightly considered one of the greatest footballers ever to play the beautiful game.

He was part of Rinus Michels' devastating Netherlands team which reached the 1974 World Cup final, also becoming a legend at every club for which he played.

As both a player and a coach, he was one of the masterminds behind "Total Football", the pioneering style of football with which the Netherlands is strongly associated.
