The Abia State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has condemned Senator Godswill Akpabio over his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement chairman of the party, Chidi Nwosu, said the former senate minority leaders defection is lawless.
Speaking to Famzn News on Friday, he said Akpabio violated the constitutional provisions by defecting to the APC when his former party (PDP) had no internal crisis.
Nwosu said: “I believe that those who make the law, should not break it. And that is the major problem Nigeria has today. The constitutional provision for carpet crossing states that, if there is a crack or division in a party at the national level, a member can defect to another party.
“In the PDP today, there is no faction in PDP. The party is intact. There is no obvious factionalization in PDP. Therefore, there is no room for any PDP legislator to disembark. There is no room for that, unless they create artificial factions.
“Unlike in APC, R-APC has proved on its own that there is division in APC. They have secretariats. So, APC legislators in the national assembly, even at the State Houses of Assembly have left for PDP.”
