As encomiums continue for the late former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, a Niger Delta activist, Ankio Briggs, has charged the human rights community and leaders from the region to make his unfulfilled dreams a reality.

Briggs, who spoke in Yenagoa, noted that the death of Alamieyeseigha would strengthen the Ijaw struggle and the region’s call for justice.

She said, Briggs the late Ijaw hero was prepared and eventually laid down his life for the political and economic freedom of the region, insisting that he did not die in vain.

The activist said they were united to engage the Federal Government in their struggle for resource control, fiscal federalism, justice and equity.

As stated by her, “This is a turning point for Ijaw people and for the Niger Delta region. It is a turning point because we know that we have to make a decision to move forward. Alamieyeseigha has left a legacy and the legacy he has left will not die.”

She said different interests in the region has no choice but to unite and confront their common enemy and, advised leaders to stop all forms of divide and rule.

“His death will further strengthen Ijaw struggle and the Niger Delta people’s call for justice. His death will further unite the Niger Delta and the Ijaw people. We have no choice but to unite,” she also stated.
