Despite sales dipping last year, Acura's MDX SUV is still one of the best-selling models in its category, which is why the updated version should do rather well.

As fate would have it, its fellow Asian rivals have already "re-loaded" in time for 2016, whether we're talking new generation models such as the Lexus RX or updated models such as the Infiniti QX60.

The QX60 for one, can offer customers a hybrid powertrain only good for 250 HP - whereas the 2017 MDX sport Hybrid uses a 3.0-liter V6 with a total output of 325 HP (330 PS).

Aside from a convincingly potent hybrid version, the updated Acura MDX comes a redesigned face sporting the brand's new signature grille.

On the equipment front, there are LED fog lights on advanced grades, heated steering wheel, Surround-View camera system plus a few optional on-the-road features such as the Active Sport Suspension with its three dynamic modes (Comfort, Normal and Sport), while the Hybrid gets a "Sport+" mode.

As standard, all MDX variants come with Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control, making sure customers no longer need to look elsewhere in order to find clever SUVs that help keep you safe.
