The former Sunderland and England midfielder has been defended by his sibling ahead of sentencing later this month for child s3x offences

Adam Johnson's sister has liked a comment on her personal Facebook page which described her brother's child abuse victim as a "silly attention seeking wanna be [sic] wag!".

The footballer was found guilty of two counts of s3xual activity with a child and one count of grooming at Bradford Crown Court last week, and is expected to receive a prison sentence for his crimes later this month.

Johnson's actions have prompted widespread anger and disgust from the general public, while Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne has resigned after the club received criticism for paying and playing the winger before he pleaded guilty.

But the 28-year-old's sister Faye Johnson has continued to vehemently support her disgraced brother. On Tuesday she updated her Facebook profile picture to an image of Adam with his young daughter.

Ms Johnson 'liked' the comment, and also showed her approval to a separate Facebook user who said: "The real AJ not the monster the media making him out to be."

Many of the comments on the photo from her friends were positive towards Johnson's behaviour and one lamented that "her [Johnson's daughter] hearts [sic] gonna be broken, for a silly attention seeking wanna be wag [sic]!."

Ms Johnson's latest image was posted at 10:38am UK time on Tuesday, just over 12 hours after she initially expressed her public support for the convicted s3x offender with a 'Justice for Johnson' poster.

The image of Johnson hugging his daughter, which can be seen below, has a message which reads: "Change your profile picture to support Adam Johnson’s appeal. Facebook removed our group but we will not stop publicising our support #TeamAJ"

The pro-Johnson support campaign image, posted just after 8pm UK time on Monday, was the first time a member of Johnson's family has commented publicly since the trial's conclusion last week.

Johnson's lawyer has expressed his client's intention to appeal against last week's verdict. His client had pleaded guilty to two of the four charges and not guilty to the other two.
