In a second time within a month, Rainstorm reportedly struck Federal Polytechnic, Idah in Kogi state , destroying facilities with great consequences.
The institution came under attack of the devastating rainstorm on 15th June, disrupting administrative and academic activities.
According to the report, the latest incident which happened recently has increased the burden of the institution in the running of its activities smoothly .
Like the first incident, the latest was stated to have destroyed more hostels ,lecture halls and other valuables facilities in the institution.
The Management of the institution stated the impact of the rainstorm attacks on the facilities in the institution is gradually grinding academic and administrative activities to a halt.
The chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Rt. Hon. Adetope Ademiluyi stressed that the persisting threat of rainstorm has caused substantial destruction to infrastructure, disrupting academic and administrative activities in the federal institution.
“On the 15th June, 2025, a severe rainstorm hit the Federal Polytechnic Idah; one of such recently . The rainstorm caused significant damage to our buildings, including lecture halls, laboratories and hostels. This affected the morale of our staff and students.
“Given the severity of the situation, we solicit for the support and assistance of the government, corporate organizations and public to rebuild and restore our institution. We urge the relevant authorities to provide us with the necessary resources to address the immediate needs of our students and staff”, stated Ademiluyi.
He mentioned that as the premier federal institution of higher learning in Kogi State, the present management is committed to providing quality education to the students, stressing that this can be achieved if people come to their aid in this trying time in the life of the institution.
Meanwhile, several students bemoaned their fate over the natural incident , noting that their situation needs urgent action to avoid total collapse of activities in the institution.
“The academic activities have been disrupted greatly by the persisting rainstorm on the facilities of the institution.”For the sake of the future of the embattled students of the institution, we appealed for help from all and sundry,in the attempt of the management of the institution to rebuild the destroyed facilities for smooth academic activities,” stated Hadizat Zubair, a student of the institution.
