The Dutchman has torn his Achilles during a game of 'foot volleyball' following the Amsterdam club's victory over rivals PSV on Sunday
Ajax have delivered a bizarre injury update after head coach Frank de Boer suffered a torn Achilles during a game of foot volleyball on Monday.
De Boer suffered the serious injury during a "relaxed recovery training session" following Ajax's 2-0 win over rivals PSV on Sunday that moved them back to the top of the Eredivisie at the Eindhoven club's expense.
The coach is accustomed to updating the media on his players' fitness, but it is his condition that will be under scrutiny after he undergoes surgery on Tuesday.
Ajax also released a video of the incident, which shows De Boer lunging forward in an attempt to prevent the ball from bouncing before remaining on the ground in visible pain as his bemused players initially watch on without coming to his aid. A grimacing De Boer was then helped from the court by two of his Ajax players, with the club later confirming his right Achilles had been torn.
