Oyo State Government has described the reported news claiming that Governor Abiola Ajimobi wants to visit Mecca with 10 Islamic scholars for reelection thanksgiving, as pure fiction and blackmail. A media message that went viral on Saturday had claimed that the Governor directed imams who paid him a courtesy visit yesterday to select 10 scholars to join him in a thanksgiving trip to Mecca. The rumour, believed to be from the opposition stated that the governor wants to share state fund around and democratize the act of wasting government scarce resources. It further stated, “Must he take scarce foreign currency to enrich the Saudi economy?” However, Oyo State Governor, Senator Ajibola Ajimobi in a statement clarified that the reports were mere rumours, pointing out that he is not contemplating that kind of jamboree. “Our attention has been drawn to the unsubstantiated lies of the Accord Party to the effect that Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State is going to Saudi Arabia with ten Islamic clerics," Governor Ajimobi said responding to the news. “Our immediate reaction was not to honour an already drowned man in the person of Senator Ladoja, with a reply, believing that the whole world knows that Ajimobi is too frugal with public fund to embark on such jamboree. “However, as is the way of Ladoja and his cronies, the lie is being spun with amazing zeal. “The truth is that Senator Ajimobi is not contemplating that kind of jamboree. In the last four years, the accusation against him was that he refused to share state fund around and democratize the act of wasting government scarce resources. “We say with all emphasis at our disposal that it is a lie from the pit of hell calculated at making the good people of Oyo State who recently retired Ladoja with their votes think they had made a mistake” it says. The statement added, “We thought the Accord and Ladoja would have taken a respite from their life of lie and campaign of calumny which failed to fly in the last election but we can see that their leopard can never change its colour.”
