The Argentine winger is at the middle of a dispute between Inter and Sunderland and admits he is relieved to be allowed to play for Sampdoria while the case rolls on

Sampdoria's on-loan winger Ricky Alvarez claims he doesn't know whether he is owned by Inter or Sunderland.

The Argentine midfielder was involved in a legal dispute between the two clubs over the specifics of last season's loan deal, with the Black Cats having agreed to stump up €11 million (£8.5m) for his services should they avoid relegation.

Former coach Dick Advocaat did manage to pull off a dramatic escape but Sunderland refused to buy Alvarez after claiming the player was injured when he arrived at the Stadium of Light.

Fifa subsequently ruled in favour of Inter but Sunderland appealed the decision and the former Velez player has been permitted to play for Sampdoria in the meantime.

“I still don’t know who holds my registration,” Alvarez confessed to La Repubblica.

“It’s not a good situation, but I can say that in general footballers aren’t used to knowing their fate. It doesn’t depend on me, I just want to do well with Sampdoria and sign a ‘real’ contract.

“It wasn’t easy to train alone for months, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on any player.”
