The Catalan defender revealed his hope the Millonarios would prevail in Sunday's Superclasico, leading his team-mate to divulge his retirement plans during a flight
The camaraderie between the members of Barcelona's first-team is already legendary, and often slated as the reason for the side's success over the last few years.
But Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano are apparently going one step further, planning for a future together far beyond Catalunya!
The Spain international treated fans to a Periscope recording of Barca's flight back home after prevailing 4-0 over Eibar at the weekend.
But the conversation took a surprising turn when evidence emerged of a promise Pique made to his Argentine team-mate to retire at Buenos Aires giants River Plate together, as they chatted about the Superclasico against Boca Juniors.
Lionel Messi, who was almost a River player himself as a teenager, was asked about the game - but perhaps conscious of his role as Argentina captain, diplomatically declined to give an answer.
But could we see Shakira's other half strutting his stuff in South America one day? Read Pique and Masche's conversation and decide for yourselves!
PIQUE: River - Boca, who is going to win?
MASCHERANO: River
P: What do you think, Leo?
MESSI: ...
MASCHERANO: I want River to win, obviously.
P: I want River to win too.
MASCHERANO: Geri promised me he would finish his career at River.
P: Ok, ok, let's not go crazy! We'll see how things go...
