Replaced Gabriel following three games out and was generally smart enough to use his anticipation and experience to deal with Vardy but missed a wonderful headed chance to win the game.
Laurent Koscielny
Booked in the lead up to Leicester’s penalty for an attempted foul as Arsenal struggled helplessly to contain the counter-attack broke. He was then forced off injured at half time.
Nacho Monreal
His crossing was reliable enough but struggled whenever he was run at by Mahrez and Vardy. Conceded the penalty for Leicester’s goal with a mistimed tackle.
Francis Coquelin
His first Premier League start since November and his presence did bring an added balance to the team, although was sacrificed early in the second-half as Arsenal sought an equaliser.
Aaron Ramsey
Began sharply but lacked conviction when he was released clear on Schmeichel’s goal during the first-half and was then wayward with a series of second-half chances.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Had a good opportunity to put Arsenal into the lead within seconds of the start but lacked confidence in crossing rather than shooting. Did also then create an excellent chance for Sanchez.
Mesut Ozil
Some wonderful early touches to release Oxlade-Chamberlain and then Ramsey before delivering the precise cross from which Arsenal seized their late winner.
Alexis Sanchez
Erratic with his finishing despite Arsenal’s control of possession. Headed a first-half chance narrowly wide and also had a shot superbly blocked by Morgan shot wide.
Olivier Giroud
His finishing in the big-games remains worryingly inconsistent but let the line with strength and his headed assist for Walcott was superbly executed.
Substitutes
Theo Walcott came on for Coquelin and finished with calm precision to put Arsenal back in the game before Danny Welbeck sealed his return after 10 months out with a dramatic headed winner.
Kasper Schmeichel
Produced a wonderful piece of first-half goalkeeping to read Ramsey’s run and sweep up the danger from well outside the penalty area and further saves to deny Giroud before Arsenal’s late comeback.
Danny Simpson
The match turned in the space of five minutes at the start of the second half with his dismissal. They were relatively soft offences but he showed a lack of composure with the second.
Wes Morgan
Another performance that makes his long career in the Championship a mystery. Made a superb saving first-half block to deny Sanchez although unable to stop Welbeck’s late winner.
Robert Huth
Has been crucial in Leicester’s rise and again organised the defence admirably in the face of considerable Arsenal pressure. Largely matched Giroud’s aerial threat.
Christian Fuchs
Was put under considerable pressure down the right by both Bellerin and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Almost punished for a bad first-half mistake, while the equaliser came from his flank.
Riyad Mahrez
A relatively quiet game although there were still moments when his skill seemed to terrify Arsenal’s defence and felt that he had provoked a second-half penalty from Monreal
N’Golo Kante
Was fortunate not to concede a first-half penalty for handball but was a towering presence. Read the game brilliantly and made numerous interceptions to disrupt Arsenal.
Danny Drinkwater
Also covered huge distances in the attempt to stifle Arsenal. Held his position with discipline but just faded once Leicester went down to 10 men as Arsenal assumed control.
Marc Albrighton
Began well and produced a superb back-post cross from which Vardy almost put Leicester into the lead. Faded somewhat thereafter and was substituted late in the game
Shinji Okazaki
Wasted a good chance when wrongly adjudged to have drifted offside and provided his usual energy before being sacrificed after Simpson’s dismissal.
Jamie Vardy
A quieter game than usual but still made his moments count. Forced a brilliant Cech save, won the penalty and converted it emphatically.
Substitutes
Mercin Wasilewski and Demarai Gray were brought on soon after Simpson’s dismissal but they still could not provide the energy to compensate for the numerical disadvantage. Andy King was also introduced in the 83rd minute as Leicester tried ultimately in vain to stem Arsenal attacks.
