The France midfielder, who joined Marseille after leaving the Gunners, could make his debut for the Ligue 1 club on Thursday after being named in the squad to face Trelissac

Abou Diaby is set to make a first-team appearance for the first time since September 2014 as he prepares to be handed his debut for Marseille on Thursday.

The Ligue 1 club take on fourth-tier side Trelissac at the Stade Chaban-Delmas in the last 16 of the French Cup, with Arsenal flop Diaby named in the squad - the first time he has been called upon by manager Michel.

Should the France midfielder, who last played for his country back in 2012 when he scored the winning goal against Finland, appear for Marseille it will be the his first senior appearance in 17 months.

The 26-year-old's last outing came for Arsenal in a 2-1 League Cup defeat to Southampton back in September 2014, where he was replaced by Santi Cazorla after 67 minutes.

Diaby, who has struggled with injury issues his entire career, was subsequently released by Arsene Wenger in the summer and Michel has suggested he will finally make his first appearance for Marseille in Thursday's cup clash.

He told the club's official website: "We're leaving with a group of players, including Abou Diaby. He's been training with the group for a couple of days. He feels prepared and ready. It's a display of confidence, it's important for him. He will even be on the game sheet."
