Jack Wilshere is similarly close to returning, with Arsène Wenger having personally reassured England manager Roy Hodgson that the midfielder should be ready this summer for Euro 2016. Tomas Rosicky, however, is facing a major challenge to again play for Arsenal after he ruptured his tendon on his comeback in the FA Cup win against Burnley.
Of Welbeck, who scored 14 goals for England and Arsenal last season, Wenger said: “He is doing well, it is a bit early for him maybe but he is now back to full power in training. It is a big possibility [he could play against Hull]. We gave him one or two days recovery after the Under-21 game, but now he is back in full training. He has worked very hard and he is fit.”
Of Wilshere and Cazorla, Wenger added: “They are back running, they are on a fitness programme now so it means it is not a question of months anymore, it is a question of weeks for them to be back.”
Arsenal have also confirmed their summer plans to play two pre-season matches in the United States. The first game will be against the MLS All-Stars in San Jose on July 28 before a fixture against Chivas de Guadalajara in Los Angeles on July 31. “Pre-season is a critically important time for us,” said Wenger. These games will be Arsenal’s only matches outside Europe this summer.
