The travails currently taking its toll on the embattled Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, have taken another another dimension as a coalition of civil societies and National Association of Nigerian Students (S) ‎threatens to stage a mass protests to embassies in Abuja.

The duo of Director-General of Heritage Centre, Dr. Katch Ononuju, and S President, Tijani Usman Shehu, who are to lead the protest stated the witch-hunt of Senator Saraki and his supporters were unnecessary and warned that it should be discontinued.

Speaking on the group's behalf on Saturday night, Ononuju said:‎ “Buhari lacks the political will to fight corruption. We are very worried with the ‎turn out of things. The action by the Senate to appoint its own leadership is the reason behind this witch-hunt.

He alleged that accidents have been arranged for senators who supported Saraki adding that the DSS have been used to trail senators.

Ononuju also noted that the current CCB should not exist, saying the current leadership came into office in 2010 and their tenure ought to have elapsed in April.

As stated by him, “The power that seeks to undermine our democracy and the Senate is gaining the upper hand.

“I want corruption to be fought, but we do not want a return to the days of Olusegun Obasanjo where arrests were targeted."
He also accused the president of making appointments and did not refer them to the Senate for confirmation because he does not like the leadership there.

“Our democracy is under threat and that is why we are talking to Nigerians. ‎Since Buhari took over, everything is going down.

He, however, called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to protect the integrity of the courts by ensuring that injunctions are respected.

“We are marching to every embassy to tell them that our democracy is under threats,” he also stated.
