At least one Syrian soldier was killed and 7 others wounded in a US-led coalition strike in central Syria late Thursday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Britain-based monitor said the bombing raid focused a Syrian authorities place in a desert space in the central province of Homs.

“There was a vehicle moving around that gathering point, which lies just 20 kilometers away from Al-Tanf,” the Observatory’s director, Rami Abdel Rahman, advised AFP.

“The vehicle and the position were both targeted,” he advised AFP. One Syrian soldier was killed and one other seven had been wounded, based on Abdel Rahman.

Al-Tanf is a garrison situated alongside Syria’s southeastern border with Jordan and is utilized by US-led coalition forces to coach Syrian rebels to battle the Islamic State group.

But there are Syrian authorities troops and allied fighters from Iran, Iraq and Lebanon positioned close to the zone.

To maintain them from interfering with the anti-IS efforts, the coalition has agreed with regime ally Russia to a 55-kilometer deconfliction zone round Al-Tanf.

The United States has carried out raids towards regime forces and its allies if it discovered they had been getting too near the zone.

On Thursday, the Pentagon advised AFP there was a temporary conflict however denied it had carried out a strike and said there have been no casualties.

Spokesman Major Adrian Rankine-Galloway said fighters from the United States-backed Syrian insurgent group Maghawir al-Thawra and coalition advisers “within the deconfliction zone near al-Tanf were engaged by an unidentified hostile force located just outside the deonfliction zone.”

The rebels and coalition advisers “returned fire in self-defense, at which time the hostile force disengaged,” Rankine-Galloway said.

The incident got here after a lethal air strike on Sunday night in the border city of Al-Hari in japanese Syria, close to the frontier with Iraq.

Fifty-five fighters together with Syrians and Iraqis had been killed. A US official talking anonymously in Washington blamed Israel.

The raid was significantly lethal for the Iraqi fighters working alongside the Syrian regime. Iraq’s highly effective Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary pressure said 22 of its members had been amongst these killed.

Placed below the authority of the Iraqi premier, these forces embrace teams near Iran, together with the Hezbollah Brigades, which misplaced fighters in the strikes.

The Syrian Observatory and Syrian state media had attributed the strike to the coalition though this was denied by the Pentagon.

On February 7, the coalition admitted to killing at least 100 pro-regime fighters in the japanese Deir Ezzor province, together with Russians.

It has been bombing IS in each Syria and neighboring Iraq since 2014.
