The Operations Manager and a dispatch rider of a commercial bank located in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, have been arrested and are currently detained after foiled bank robbery attempt.

Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrests, gave their names as Francis Enebeme and Wilfred Akah, respectively.

She stated that they were currently being detained at the state Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba.

The bank workers were said to have been apprehended shortly after the foiled robbery by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Tuesday, following a tip-off that a gang of armed robbers had finalised plans to rob the bank along Effurn-Sapele Road, near Refinery Junction, in Warri.

The PPRO said security operatives mounted surveillance near the bank and repelled the robbers when they attempted to rob the bank.

She said the robbers’ attempt to storm the bank as they shot into the air was repelled by police detectives who had surrounded the area.

The PPRO disclosed that various sums of money were found in the offices of the arrested workers.

She stated that the suspects were allegedly involved in the planning and execution of the foiled robbery, adding that upon interrogation, they made useful statements to the police.
