Bartolo Colon left Tuesday night’s game against the Royals after getting hit on the right thumb by a line drive from the first hitter of the game.
Colon attempted to field the ball hit by Whit Merrifield, but it hit off his pitching hand. Colon shook his right hand in obvious pain.
The Mets announced during the bottom of the first that X-rays were negative and Colon suffered a right thumb contusion.
After the 1-4-3 out was recorded, manager Terry Collins and trainer Ray Ramirez sprinted to the mound to check on the 43-year-old Colon. It wasn’t long before Colon walked off the field. He was replaced by Hansel Robles.
Colon came into the game with a 6-3 record and 3.01 ERA. The one out lowered his ERA to 3.00.
