The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Bauchi State have agreed to reconcile its members and work together with the aim of repositioning the party before 2019.

In a meeting tagged: ‘Reconciliation and Forgiveness’, held at Zaranda Hotel Bauchi over the weekend, the state Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Yaro Yaro said the party was able to reconcile aggrieved members and factions.

The stakeholders present at the meeting include the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Mohmmed, Senator Adamu Gumba, Senator Abdul Ningi, Senator Babayo Gamawa, former Deputy Governor Abdulmalik Mahmud and members of the executives.

As stated by Yaro, “The meeting was aimed at putting to an end all factions and to also preach to one another, the gospel of unity in the political system within the state and the nation at large.

He said the party would constitute reconciliation and finance committees that will carry out the responsibilities of bringing people together to attain the goals of the party.

In his remark the former Minister of FCT, Mohammed counseled that politicians should not allow prolonged malice and animosity to interfere with their political will among members. To him such attitude will hinder the success of the party.

As stated by him, “I won’t say that because I lost the contest for the post of national chairmanship, I will then leave the PDP, this is not my kind of politics.“I have never said that I was leaving the PDP because I lost the seat of the national chairman, this is not my kind of politics.

“Whoever feels I have offended him, I will ask for forgiveness because this is politics, there is no room for institutionalized animosity.”Mohammed also called on party members to ensure that all fences were mended in order to bring the party to its real upper status.

He said internal democracy should be the watchword of members to avoid further rancor and division in the party even as he observed that such would do more harm than good to the party’s political strength.

Also speaking, Senator Ningi said justice and equity should be the cardinal focus and objectives of the party and that “members should be self-disciplined in order to achieve a common set goal.

“We all need to come back and make the party great again through collective efforts of ensuring that there is no more factions.”

The Former Deputy Governor, Mahmoud in his remark challenged the PDP stakeholders in the state to embrace internal democracy while he regretted the abysmal failure of the PDP in 2015 elections, which he attributed to lack of justice and internal democracy.

As stated by Mahmoud, “It’s time the PDP should put its house in order in preparatory to the national and state conventions at all levels.Senator Gamawa also urged PDP supporters to shun their differences and embrace unity as he vowed to remain in the party.
