The Royal BelgianΒ Football Association have stressed they will not rush a decision over the future of manager Marc Wilmots following the nation's Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Wales.

Belgium suffered a shock 3-1 defeat against Wales in the quarter-finalsΒ despite having taken the lead through Radja Nainggolan.

Goals from Ashley Williams, Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes condemned the Red Devils to a last-eight exit - the same stage they reached in the 2014 World Cup.

WilmotsΒ took charge in May 2012 and helped lead the nation to the top of the FIFA world rankings last year, but has come under scrutiny for perceived mis-management of Belgium's golden generation.

But the Belgium FAΒ insist they are keen to avoid making a β€œhasty” decision over Wilmots' future, with β€œthorough” talks set to take place over the next few weeks.

"After consultation between the federal president and the chairman, we have decided not to make any hasty decisions, but to take a few weeks working on a thorough evaluation of the national team's performance,” a statement from the Belgium FA read.

"A decision in this regard will be announced when it is made, but it should not be expected in the next few days."

Wilmots, who is contracted until 2018,Β was asked about his future after the Wales gameΒ and also insisted he would not be making a swift decision on his future.

"I said I would make my decision after the European Championship," he said. "I won't make one straight after the game. There is a lot of adrenaline going. We will have to see."
