The Benue State Government has dismissed reviews that Governor Samuel Ortom stopped a protest to demand the discharge of former Governor Gabriel Suswam.
The former governor is being detained by the Department of State Services (DSS).
As said by reviews, Ortom had ordered the police to cease the protest, citing safety causes.
In a assertion Ortom’s spokesperson, Terver Akase, described the report as deceptive.
He stated: “We learn a veiled try by the National Council of Tiv Youths to hyperlink Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, with the botched protest it organised in Makurdi to demand the discharge of former Governor Gabriel Suswam who's being detained by the Department of State Services, DSS.
“The group failed woefully to tender any proof to show the Governor’s involvement within the arrest of his predecessor or stoppage of the deliberate procession to name for his launch.
“If members of the group have any problems with security agencies who have the capacity to act independently, they should sort themselves out without dragging in Governor Ortom who has since denied media reports linking him with the arrest of the former Governor.”
