Germany are through to the Euro 2016 semi-finals after beating Italy in a competitive game for the first time... and they did it via one of the most entertaining penalty shootouts you are ever likely to see.
Each team failed to score three of their opening five spot-kicks, with Italy's Simone Zaza bizarre run-up and miss trumping Graziano Pelle's Diana Ross impression in a host of fails.
Usually so dependable, Germany's form from 12 yards almost completely deserted them yet they still reach the final four after Gianluigi Buffon failed to keep out Jonas Hector's effort. Here's how Twitter took in the action.
THAT ZAZA PENALTY
Forget where the pen ended up...what was that run up about?!

FROM THE SEMI-SUBLIME TO THE UTTERLY RIDICULOUS
Germany are useless at penalties these days.

Italy have decided to be worse.

BUT WE LOVED IT
Best. Penalty. Shootout. Ever.

EVEN IF WE KNEW WHO WOULD WIN
Only Germany could win their worst penalty shootout of all time.

Its so long since Germany lost a shootout that neither of the countries in that game exist anymore. West Germany v Czechoslovakia.

All the English-based Germans & Italians who took penalties missed

ALL THAT WAS MISSING WAS THIS
The only thing that would have salvaged that shambolic shoot-out: Neuer taking that last pen vs Buffon. A tragic missed opportunity #GERITA
