Smartphone buyers who want affordable phones without service contracts have three new handset options from no-contract, prepaid carriers Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA, which are units of Sprint. All three smartphones—Kyocera's waterproof Hydro Reach, LG's G Stylo 2 and Samsung's Galaxy J7—have a wide range of features at prices under $230 each. The Kyocera Hydro Reach, which replaces Kyocera's original Hydro Edge phone, features a 5-inch qHD In-Plane Switching (IPS) display, while the LG G Stylo 2 has a 5.7-inch HD thin-film transistor (TFT) IPS display. The Samsung Galaxy J7 handset features a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED touch screen. The Kyocera and Samsung phones will be available through both carriers immediately, while the LG phone is available now through Boost and will be sold through Virgin Mobile starting May 9. Boost customers can get a $35 monthly mobile plan with 2GB of high-speed data or a $45 plan, which includes 5GB of high-speed data. Virgin offers a $40-per-month plan with 4GB of high-speed data.
