The Nigerian Army has stated there will be restriction of movement in Maiduguri for Saturday's bye-election into the Borno Central Senatorial election.
A press release signed by the Media Coordinator, Operation Lafiya Dole and spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri, Col Tukur Gusau stated the restriction would only affect the two local government areas at the state capital namely Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government.
“The Theater Command OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE wish to inform the residents of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere local government areas that a restriction order will be effective during the bye election scheduled on Saturday 31 October, 2015 in Borno Central senatorial zone of Borno state,” the statement reads.
The restriction, according to the spokesman, would involve the use of vehicles, tricycles, bicycles and animals, and will be effective from 6.00am to 5.00pm.
It stated no vehicles would be allowed into and out of the two local governments in the capital throughout the bye-election. “Citizens are called upon to come out freely to exercise their constitutional rights. Appropriate security measures are put in place to guarantee peaceful election exercise throughout the senatorial zone,” the statement stated.
