Brady Skjei, the Rangers’ top defensive prospect, was recalled from the AHL Tuesday in the wake of a right hand injury to captain Ryan McDonagh in Columbus.
McDonagh was injured blocking a one-timer from Brandon Dubinsky in the first period of the 4-2 win on Monday that clinched a playoff spot, and did not return. He was evaluated again Tuesday and coach Alain Vigneault is expected to discuss the injury — and Skjei — at 5:30 p.m. before the Blueshirts host the Lightning at Madison Square Garden.

Skjei, 22, and like McDonagh, a lefty, is expected to dress Tuesday night, but with what defense partner is unclear.
The former first-round pick in 2012, who is 6-3 and 215 pounds, has played in four games with the Rangers this season. He made his NHL debut on Dec. 15 against Edmonton. The Minnesota native had four goals and 24 assists in 68 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
