Sebastiano Rossi's record, which stood for over 20 years, has been broken by the veteran Bianconeri custodian, who was last beaten domestically in January

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has broken the clean sheet record in Serie A.

The 38-year-old shot-stopper successfully negotiated the first 181 seconds of his side’s derby clash with Torino without leaking a goal, meaning that he has broken Sebastiano Rossi’s previous mark of 929 consecutive minutes, which was achieved over 11 matches in the 1993-94 season.

Buffon’s remarkable run started on January 10, when he was beaten by Antonio Cassano of Sampdoria after 64 minutes of a 2-1 victory.

Since then, the Italy international has gone unbeaten domestically, conceding only against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Nevertheless, the veteran keeper is little over halfway towards the world record in top-flight football, as Vasco da Gama’s Mazaropi kept his goal untouched for 1,816 minutes during the Campeonato Brasileiro of 1977-78.
