Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari spent Tuesday in The Gambia resolving the impasse over outgoing President Yahya Jammeh’s obduracy to accept the verdict of the people in the 1 December election.
Buhari, along with ECOWAS chairman, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, John Dramani Mahama of Ghana and Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone and UN envoy, Muhamad Ibn Chambas, met with President Jammeh and president-elect, Adama Barrow.
In a tweet, President Muhammadu Buhari defined the objective of the peace mission: ” We will be asking President Jammeh to respect his country’s Constitution, and to maintain the inviolability of the electoral process”.
And he stated after meeting Jammeh, that he was receptive to the message brought by the West African leaders.
