The sharp Avista concept has claimed the EyesOn Design Award for Design Excellence for a concept car at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show.

Buick is no stranger to the award, having received it at last years event, too, with the Avenir Concept. As the name of the award suggests, it is given to a concept making its world debut at Detroit with the best design and is awarded alongside the best design for a production car.

The award helps raise awareness for EyesOn Design, a benefit of the Henry Ford Health System's Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.

Discussing the design of the car, executive director of Buick Global Design Bryan Nesbitt said: “Design has always played a large role in Buick's rich history and recent success. The Avista concept has been a labor of love by the team of designers, sculptors, engineers and talented craftspeople, including our UAW partners, who created this beautiful statement of Buick design. Avista represents the future essence of Buick design.”

Although nothing has been confirmed, it is reported that the Avista shares its underpinnings with the latest-generation Chevrolet Camaro and Cadillac ATS, suggesting that it could indeed reach the production line. The car on display is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivering 400 hp to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
