The former Anfield defender has joked that there could be a positive if Jurgen Klopp's side are eliminated from the competition by Louis van Gaal's men
The Europa League has thrown up a sublime last-16 tie as Manchester United face Liverpool - and Jamie Carragher has joked that it’s a win-win situation for his former club.
United will make the short trip to Anfield for the first leg next month before hosting the return fixture at Anfield, while Van Gaal has already admitted that his side’s best chance of reaching next season’s Champions League is to win this year’s competition.
That will mean finding a way past Liverpool - a team who United have beaten in each of their last four meetings - but Carragher took to Twitter to say that all’s not lost for Jurgen Klopp’s side if they are eliminated by Van Gaal's side.
