Jailed Liberian war criminal and ex-President, Charles Taylor, is hale and hearty, contrary to rumours circulating on social media, the UK’s Ministry of Justice has told the BBC.
Taylor, 67, is serving a 50-year prison sentence in the UK following his conviction by a UN-backed court for backing rebels in Sierra Leone during the 1991-2002 civil war.
News filtered the air Thursday morning that former Liberian president died of heart attack.
Taylor, first former head of state to be convicted of war crimes since World War II was sentenced to 50 years in prison in May 2012 by an international court in The Hague, Netherlands.
The Special Court for Sierra Leone convicted of supplying and encouraging rebels in neighboring Sierra Leone in a campaign of terror, involving murder, rape, s3xual slavery and the conscription children younger than 15.
