Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has callled on his side to continue improving as they prepare to face Liverpool in the International Champions Cup.

The Italian has overseen one victory and one defeat since arriving at Stamford Bridge at the start of pre-season, with the Blues having travelled to California for their latest clash.

And the former Juventus boss is keen to see how his squad is developing as they take on one of their rivals for the Premier League title next season.

"Liverpool is one of the best teams in the league and I’m sure Liverpool can fight to win the title," he told reporters.

"It is a good game for us, but winning is not the most important thing. We try to work on different aspects, and we’ve worked a lot. But we want to play a good game and I want to see improvement from my players.

"A game against a good opponent is a good game and I’m very curious to see my team against Liverpool.

"Liverpool is one of seven or eight teams that can fight at the end to win the title. I’m sure of this.

"Jurgen Klopp worked already for six months with this team and it’s very important for him and Liverpool to understand each other. Liverpool is a great team and can fight at the end to win the title with the other teams.

"It’s important to work and have the time to transfer your methods and ideas of football."

Klopp and his squad arrive in Pasadena having spent a number of days in Palo Alto leading up to their ICC campaign.

And they could hand a debut to Georginio Wijnaldum after the Netherlands international became the club's sixth summer signing following his arrival from Newcastle.

But he may not be the last new arrival on Merseyside, with Klopp insisting the club will be busy dealiing with both outgoings and incomings.

“There's been a lot of planning. It's like a puzzle. That's how building a squad works," he said.

“We still have to do a lot of things on the selling side. We don't want to have 500 players in the squad.

“We're in a good way. We don't need to make another three or four signings, maybe one more, maybe not."
