Emerging filmmaker and head honcho of Raconteur Productions, Chioma Onyenwe, is ready to offer her first feature film as director of 8 Bars and A Clef.

For wider viewing, the dashing producer and director has invited her friends, colleagues, associates, potential sponsors and partners to an exclusive premiere scheduled for 6pm on May 29 in Lagos.

It would be the first official outing for the movie, which stars Wale Ojo, Kehinde Bankole and Linda Ihouma Ejiofor in lead roles, had been previewed at last year’s edition of the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

Already, the movie has been nominated in the category of the first feature film by a director for this year’s edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Chioma disclosed that as a Nigerian filmmaker, she is motivated to tell stories that not only showcase the uniqueness of the Nigerian people, but also their connection to the rest of the world.

The director of a 2011 web series, titled Goddammit, also said: “For the longest time, I have been an avid consumer of stories from every medium (books, music, films, television, news, word of mouth).

“The power of film, however, to influence and shape perception has remained unparalleled.

“I love movies that take the viewer on an emotional rollercoaster and showcase multi-dimensional characters, in which, regardless of who we are or where we are in the world, we see ourselves.

“8 Bars & A Clef attempts to highlight some of these problems, while telling a coming of age drama.

“This is my first feature film, which was only made possible because of my admirers. I am driven to continue to tell stories that show our similarities, even in our difference.”
