Police in Lagos have on Tuesday arraigned a 31-year-old man, Joshua Oshame for reportedly assaulting two police officers.
Oshame who was reportedly intoxicated with Codeine, was arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates Court
The Prosecutor Michael Unah told the court that the accused assaulted one Inspector Yakubu Adeniyi and Sergeant Moses Ogwu with a beer bottle while on their duties.
Unah alleged that the man committed the offences on August 25, around 10:30 am at Aganga Street, Ifako-Ijaiye in Lagos.
The Prosecutor stated that the accused was apprehended by the complaits at a suspected criminal hideout around Ifako-Ijaiye with a bottle of codeine cough syrup and other illegal drugs.
“The accused resisted arrest and in the process, he hit the complaits with a beer bottle,” he said.
reports that the Prosecutor further stated that the offences contravened Sections 117 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).
Oshame, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety by the Chief Magistrate A.A. Fashola.
Fashola instructed that the surety must be gainfully employed and should present two years evidence of tax payment to the state as bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till September 28 for mention.
