The Chelsea striker will not be sanctioned for an apparent bite on the midfielder, but for gestures to Toffees fans during the defeat
Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been charged with improper conduct for his behaviour after receiving a second yellow card during Saturday's FA Cup tie against Everton.
The Spain international appeared to bite Everton's Gareth Barry during a clash in Chelsea's 2-0 defeat at the weekend.
Barry, however, came out after the game to say Costa did not bite him, declarations which nevertheless could not save the forward from further disciplinary action.
According to the FA, the improper conduct charge stems from his reaction to seeing red in the game and not the tussle with the ex-Manchester City man.
"Diego Costa has been charged in relation to Chelsea’s FA Cup sixth round fixture against Everton on Saturday 12 March 2016," the body's statement reads.
"It is alleged his behaviour, after being shown a second yellow card in the game, amounted to improper conduct.
#He has until 6pm (GMT) on Thursday 17 March 2016 to respond to the charge.
#Meanwhile, the Chelsea striker has until Wednesday [16 March 2016] to provide his observations to The FA in relation to an alleged gesture he made towards Everton supporters while leaving the pitch at half-time."
Chelsea's defeat, just days after being bundled out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain, ends the last hope Guus Hiddink's men had of winning silverware following a testing 2015/16 season.
