Costa has blamed a lack of consumers on the High Street for a fall in like-for-like sales firstly of the 12 months.

The nation's largest coffee chain reported a 2% fall in like-for-like sales within the first three months of the 12 months.

However, whole UK sales development have been up by 5.2% because of new retailer openings, stated Costa mum or dad Whitbread.

Whitbread stated early steps had been taken to demerge Costa from the group, a transfer introduced in April.

"Our stores remain highly profitable and deliver an excellent return on capital," stated boss Alison Brittain.
