A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday granted bail to a 32-year-old middleman to a herbalist consultant, Okafor Ejike, in the sum of N100, 000 for allegedly cheating two clients of N114, 000.
Ejke of Old Damagaza village, Apo, Abuja, was arraigned on a one-count charge of cheating.

The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however, ordered the defendant to provide one surety in like sum and that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Kagarko adjourned the case till May 26 for hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Urom Otu, told the court that Nnaemeka Dim and Ebuka Nnaji of Damagaza village, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on March 21.

Otu said the defendant who acted as middleman to a herbalist, fraudulently deceived and collected N99, 500 from Dim and N17,500 from Nnaji with their pictures between December 2015 and February 2016.

Otu said the defendant promised to take the complaits to the said herbalist based in Anambra to assist them with charms to boost their businesses.

He stated that the defendant absconded with the money until he detectives arrested him.

He told the court that the offence contravened Section 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
