An Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday remanded a job agent, Olakunle Abayomi, in prison custody for allegedly defrauding job seekers of N865,000.

Abayomi had pleaded guilty to a four-count charge bordering on obtaining under false pretences, forgery and stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, ordered that Abayomi be remanded in Ikoyi prisons, and adjourned the case till May 13 for facts and sentencing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offences at Alagbado Area, Lagos on March 16.

Uwadione said that the accused approached the complaits and told them that he could help them secure a job with the Federal Ministry of Education as teachers.

He said the accused forged the confirmation and employment letters purported to have been signed by Yemisi Esan, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

``Altogether, the accused is alleged to have defrauded the following people: Abiodun Ajayi, Adeyemi Adejobi and Comfort Oluborode of N865,000.

``The offences contravened Sections 285, 312(1) and 363(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,” Uwadione stated.
