Senator Jonah Jang
A Plateau State High Court has remanded Senator Jonah Jang (PDP-Plateau North) in jail, pending ruling within the bail software over alleged corruption and misappropriation.
The trial Judge, Justice D.D Longji, gave the order on Wednesday after listening to the arguments of each protection and prosecution counsels.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on Monday May 7, arraigned Jang, on a 12- rely cost bordering on alleged corruption and misappropriation.
Jang, a former Plateau governor, is alleged to have misappropriated over N6 billion, two months to the tip of his tenure, as governor of Plateau in 2015.
The lawmaker can also be mentioned to have allegedly embezzled over N4 billion from the state coffers by a cashier within the workplace of the Secretary to the State Government, one Yusuf Pam.
Joined as co-accused, is Pam, alleged to have personally enriched himself with N11 million.
The prosecutionn counsel stated that the offences contravened Section 315 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded not responsible to the cost.
The defence counsel, Robert Clarke, in a written software in the course of the arraignment prayed the courtroom to grant his purchasers bail on self recognition as a two-time governor and a serving senator.
He stated that if the bail was granted, his purchasers wouldn't bounce bail however could be out there always for trial.
But the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, urged the courtroom to refuse the applying for bail.
He cited Section 341 (2) of the 1999 structure and argued that an offence which attracts an imprisonment of greater than three years was not bail-able offence.
The decide acceded to the prosecuting counsel’s request and ordered the defendants to be remanded on the Jos prisons.
