Court Orders Clarence Peter To Pay N5m For Copyright Infringement

A Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos, has slammed a N5m copyright infringement cost towards well-liked Nigerian music video director, Clarence Peters.

The judgment delivered by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun was in favour of Uwana Victor and Akan Victor, buying and selling underneath the title, Black Alliance.

The May four judgement, reportedly held that,

“In the circumstances of this case, I've little doubt that the defendant (Peters) took benefit of the plaintiffs and infringed on their copyright.

“Both normal and particular damages are compensatory damages. General damages are loses which circulate naturally from the defendant’s conduct and its quantum needn't be pleaded or proved as it's usually presumed by regulation.

“…I believe that the plaintiffs’ claim for damages amount to general damages and in the circumstance, I believe general damages will adequately take care of the loses occasioned by the defendant’s conduct. The sum of N5m only is awarded against the defendant.”

The courtroom ruling, has nevertheless been appealed by Peters in a Court of Appeal, Famzn News understands.
