21-year-old graduate of Mass Communications from Covet University, Brenda Evbodaghe, has emerged winner of the Miss Bold and Beautiful pageant sponsored by Nigeria’s indigenous ICT solutions provider, Globacom.
The pageant was part of the elaborate programmes lined up to welcome the Batch 'A' of the 2015 corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, on Saturday.
Miss Evbodaghe contended with a bevy of beauties from various parts of the country, all eager to wear the coveted crown. She outperformed them by her confidence, poise and quick wit.
Accomplished stand-up comic, Gbenga Adeyinka, who anchored the well-attended event, treated the guests to rib-cracking jokes. His performance was part of the high points of the evening.
The excitement the celebrated anchor created with his opening routine was sustained by Glo ambassador and rave-of-the-moment musician, Burna Boy. His performance was also superlative, getting nearly every member of the audience on their feet and dancing.
The highest point of the night was the beauty pageant, christened, Miss Bold and Beautiful. All the ladies who had applied to be part of the competition and screened were invited to strut their stuff.
The contestants appeared on stage in three costumes: Full NYSC Corps regalia, evening gown and native wears. They danced in well-choreographed steps and later appeared on stage after the dance routines to answer a few questions from the anchors. Their poise, splendor, intellectual depth and elegance showcased Nigeria's abundant talents.
In the end, Brenda was declared winner by a uimous decision from the judges comprising Glo ambassadors Bez, Ego Ogbaru and other NYSC Camp officials. She won an iPhone 6 with 4.5 Gb data and 5,000 worth of Glo Airtime.
A Business Administration graduate from Babcock University, Iwuese Oluchi Precious, was first runner-up and won a Laptop, Glo modem with 4.5 Gb data and 5,000 airtime, while Judith Nze, a Biomedical Science graduate from the University of Wolverhampton, England came third, winning a Samsung Phone.
Commenting, the pageant winner said, “I feel so happy winning this contest. I never expected to emerge winner. It's a very happy moment for me. This crown, I’m sure will spur me into giving my best during the service year. I will use this contest as a springboard to achieve my dream in the wider society.”
Other interesting performances of the evening included Chuddy K, a Nigerian hip hop sensation. He sent the audience wild with the performance of his hit 'Gaga Crazy'.
A youth corps member, Ifeanyi Solomon from University of Abuja had also replicated the Michael Jackson's electrifying dance steps precisely like the late global music icon would have, sending the crowd into an ecstatic applause.
There was also a dance competition in an evening designed to keep the corps members constantly engaged with the Glo brand. The competition was won by Chukwuma Udechukwu from the University of Amsterdam.
Globacom’s Group Business Director, Mr. Kunle Akanmu, in brief welcome remarks, stated the company believes passionately in the Nigerian youth and would always stand by them and provide them with the platform to reach their fullest potentials.
In his own remarks, the Lagos State NYSC director, Cyril Akhahe, thanked Globacom for coming to the aid of the youth corps members in Lagos State.
About a week ago, Globacom sponsored the welcome party for corps members deployed to Lagos State and also donated a massive 100 KVA electricity generating set to the Lagos Orientation Camp.
