The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Command, has impounded a military truck imported through the Seme border.
In a statement, NCS stated the truck, which was smuggled into Nigeria under false declaration, was intercepted through the efforts of the command’s operational officers. It was stated to have been inscribed with the words “used for transporting troops.”
The Seme Customs Area Controller, Ndalati Mohammed, stated investigation was still ongoing to fish out the importer of the consignment that he noted as capable of undermining the security of the nation.
He said, “One of the core mandates of the Federal Government is the resolve to secure the nation from any threat to peace, which the NCS is ready to enforce as a security agent at the international border.
“All hands are on deck to work strictly in compliance with the policy thrust of the Customs Comptroller General. Officers have been warned to adhere strictly to guidelines and also abhor anything that has to do with cases of false declarations, deliberate misapplication of tariff, undervaluation and concealment.”
As stated by the command, it collected a total of N883, 791, 678.00 in the month of September, 2015 as revenue.
In addition, 12 seizures with a duty paid value of N3,094,000.00 were made, he also stated.
Mohammed attributed the reduction in the number of seizures to the aggressive anti-smuggling operations embarked upon by the officers of the command.
He said, “We have consistently performed above average despite many hiccups that make the revenue target for the current year seemingly unattainable. While officers work assiduously for a maximum result in the command, they must be careful to do so according to the laid down guidelines and procedure.
