Newcastle United youngster Dan Barlaser hopes his loan move to Crewe Alexandra will ‘kick start’ his career.

The talented midfielder joined the League Two side on a loan deal until the end of the season last Friday and made his debut from the bench on Saturday.

The 21-year-old is highly rated at Newcastle, and has already made three appearances for the first team.

He signed a new deal until the end of next season earlier in the campaign and the Gateshead-born former Turkish youth international is hopeful his loan move to the Alex is the springboard he needs to kickstart his Newcastle career.

“This is my first loan and I am ready for the challenge,” Barlaser told Crewe’s official website.

“I knew Crewe gave young players a chance, so when I heard they were interested in taking me I jumped at the chance really.

“I want to come here and get some game time and kick start my career. It is a great opportunity for me.”

Just over 24 hours after joining the club, Barlaser was involved in Crewe’s match day squad last Saturday as they were beaten 3-2 by Wycombe Wanderers.

Barlaser came off the bench late in the second half and although he didn’t have much time to make an impact, his brief cameo impressed Crewe boss David Artell.

And he admitted he was delighted to make his debut for the club so soon into his loan spell.

“I played for Newcastle’s 23s on the Thursday and the gaffer came on and asked if I wanted to come to Crewe on loan,” he added.

“He told me that I would be involved on Saturday and I was delighted to get on. My family were all there so it was really good to get on the pitch. It was really nice but the result didn’t go for us.

“I’ve settled in really well. The lads and staff have been great with me and I will be moving with Trig (Dave Richards) soon.”
